Shrimpers Trust

← Work

Ongoing design partner to the Shrimpers Trust, Southend United's official independent supporters' trust. The work spans a full identity and rebrand, the official Shrimpers Heritage card series (including a dedicated microsite), the trust's yearly report, and nationally distributed campaign reports, including "Dereliction & Decline," published to coincide with a Conservative Party Conference session titled "Playing by the Rules: The Governance of English Football."

Shrimpers Trust

Identity

The Trust needed a mark and a set of rules that could sit comfortably on a campaign report headed to Westminster one week and a matchday brochure the next — serious enough for the former, warm enough for the latter.

Dereliction & Decline

The Shrimpers Trust paper 'Dereliction & Decline', was published to coincide with a session at the Conservative Party Conference entitled 'Playing by the Rules: The Governance of English Football'.

It is the culmination of years of work from supporters of Southend United Football Club to highlight both the importance of the club to its community and the effects of mismanagement.

I was asked to present the information gathered into a report format. I requested permission from a local photographer to use his work so I could break the long paragraphs of text up into smaller readable sections.

The final version of the paper is 64 pages and has had a very positive response nationally, with the Labour Party, Conservative Party, Football Association and the Football League all having been given a copy.

Heritage Cards

I designed the official Shrimpers Heritage card series and its dedicated microsite, shrimpersheritage.com. The set recognises the historic contributions of Southend United players from minority backgrounds, twelve players feature, from early trailblazers like Micky Welch to modern favourites such as Collin Andeng-Ndi, each card uncovering a piece of hidden history behind the players who shaped the club. It's the first in what's planned as an ongoing collection, and the project received a Sporting Heritage Community Grant to help preserve that history for future supporters.
